This scholarship is to assist fully enrolled Māori and Pasifika students at Ara while their programme of study is in progress with the unsubsidised portion of their childcare costs at any licensed childcare centre or facility. Assistance given will be up to NZ$500.00 per recipient.


To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • Evidence of financial need
  • Evidence of any assistance you currently receive for childcare, eg WINZ etc
  • Applicants for this scholarship must be Maori or Pasifika New Zealand citizens or permanent residents

When you have completed this application please either email it to or deliver it to the Student Central, Rakaia Centre, City Campus, Christchurch. If you have any enquiries please contact the Student Advisor on 03 940 8677.

Applicants will be fully enrolled in study at Ara. “Fully enrolled” means that all courses within their programme of study have been paid by Student Loan or other means. Childcare scholarships will be awarded within the duration of the programme of study.

The successful applicant will receive assistance with their childcare costs during the year of study in which they apply. The scholarship will be available to assist students with childcare costs, or the difference between any subsidy that is received (i.e. from WINZ) and the full fee due.

A maximum of one scholarship per family will be awarded. All fees will be paid direct to the childcare centre involved. No monies will be available to students.

Applicants for this scholarship must be Māori or Pasifika New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Continuing financial assistance will be dependent on the recipient’s regular attendance and the meeting of course requirements, both of which will be checked on a regular basis.

Continuing financial assistance will also be dependent on recipient’s children attending the booked hours on a regular basis. Children’s attendance at their centre will be checked on a monthly basis.
