Password Information

As part of our ICT Security Policy, students are required to change their network password when they first login. This provides better security for you.

Students are recommended to set a Windows Complex Password, which should have the following attributes:

  • Minimum length of 8 characters
  • Contain at least one capital letter
  • Contain at least one symbol OR number
  • The same password should not be used again

Changing Your Password

You can change your network password by:

  • Pressing CTRL, ALT, DELETE (all together) once you are logged in on a computer
  • Select change password. You will be asked to enter your old password, then you will be asked to enter your new password in the two spaces provided
  • You enter it twice so that the computer can be sure that you have not typed it incorrectly by mistake

You can also use the Self-service Password Reset portal from your home personal computer or Internet-enabled mobile device.

Self-service Password Reset

If you ever forget your password, you can reset it yourself by answering a few identifying questions (without having to contact the Service Desk).

Visit http://password.ara.ac.nz to access the self-service password reset service. If this is the first time you've accessed the service, you need to register before you can reset your password.

Self-Service Password Reset for Distant Students

If you would like to change your password, but you're not on any of our campuses, you can do this at home.Please follow the steps for the Self-service Password Reset registration and when you have completed, you can then log in to Moodle with your new password.
